Week commencing 5th February 2024 - Acorns 59

Welcome to our blog post.

This week we have been learning about China and the Lunar New Year.

It’s the year of the Dragon !

We have been learning a new song ..

Lunar New Year, Lunar New Year

Lets have fun, lets have fun

See the dragons dancing, see the dragons dancing

Everyone, everyone.

We can say Hello in Chinese – Mrs Franks taught us an easy way of remembering how to say it.

Maybe we can teach you at home?

We did some special painting with chopsticks instead of paintbrushes.

The pictures turned out really well.  We displayed them in the nursery for everyone to see.

We also made some lanterns – we chose which colour of paper to use and drew pictures before folding and cutting our lanterns to shape.

We displayed them in the kitchen and have enjoyed looking at them all week.

We listened to some traditional music and dressed up in traditional clothes.

We used chopsticks to eat our lunch.  It was very tricky but we were amazed at how the children quickly adapted to using them.

“These are called noodle sticks”

“My sister uses chop sticks when she eats sushi”

“I love these little sticks”

“AAAARRRGGGGHHHHH - My noodles keep falling off!”

We were so excited to have a fortune cookie after our lunch.

'The next sunny day will be your lucky day' was one of our favourite fortunes.

Let’s hope it comes true.

We enjoyed time in the garden and have noticed some signs of spring.

We found some snowdrops, daffodils and new buds growing on our plants.

We practised our scissors skills this week – trying hard to cut along a pre drawn lines.

We loved wearing the dragon costume and dancing around in the lounge.

Mrs Irwin surprised us with something rather special – we were sooo excited to meet this huge dragon!!

We also did some Chinese writing – we looked at a number line and identified our own special wnumbers

“I am three – that’s my number”

We then tried to write the symbols for our numbers.

What a busy and wonderful week.

We hope you all have a wonderful half term break and we look forward to hearing about your adventures when we come back.

Mrs Franks and The Acorns 59 Team.
