Day Nursery

With two wonderful nursery settings in Lindfield, our highly qualified Acorns team provide outstanding childcare throughout the 9-3pm nursery day, which can be supplemented with additional on-site child-minding before and after the main nursery day.

For information about our ethos and values please visit our 'home' and 'about us' pages.
Parents have the choice between two wonderful settings, or can choose to combine both settings to provide a more varied experience for your child. Read more about each setting below.

Upon starting The Acorns, you and your child will be asked to complete an 'all about me' pack to help provide us with a good initial understanding of what makes your child unique. Then, through regular communication and written observations, we help set and monitor individualised targets for your child's holistic development.
The Nursery day
Each nursery day combines a balance of both structure and freedom. Providing structure enables children to access organised and stimulating activities and familiarise them with routines, whilst the freedom throughout the day to choose activities helps encourage imaginative play, social interaction and practice exercising choice and independence. A morning and afternoon snack are provided, alongside a home-cooked lunchtime meal.

Children are encouraged to spend a substantial amount of time outside, in all weathers! Curiosity about the natural world is nurtured through outdoor play and exploring the surrounding wildlife. Climbing and playing in the mud kitchen are popular outside activities. Learning from the natural world around us permeates into all aspects of the nursery, from using natural materials to create artwork, songs about the changing seasons, to story-time about all the different animals with whom we share our planet.

To compliment our outdoor approach, we are also passionate about providing children with a springboard of literacy and numeracy skills to prepare them for 'big' school. Alongside integrating basic counting and literacy playfully into all activities, we also offer a popular reading scheme for children from aged 3. This helps children increase familiarity and confidence in reading, and begins with simply nurturing their already-existing curiosity for stories. Through one-to-one reading time, children then go on to develop their abilities in recognising letters and words, and progress to phonic blending. This provides Acorns children with the confidence and skills needed to make a smooth transition into their next stage of education.

We also endeavour to provide children with a wealth of creative opportunities. We are fortunate to have both fantastic resources and an abundance of talent within our staff team, meaning children have regular access to a broad variety of creative activities from arts and craft, junk modelling and regular music sessions.
