With two wonderful nursery settings Lindfield and Westmeston, our highly qualified Acorns team provide outstanding childcare throughout the 9-3pm nursery day, which can be supplemented with additional on-site child-minding before and after the main nursery day.
Parents have the choice between two wonderful settings, or can choose to combine both settings to provide a more varied experience for your child. Read more about each setting below.

Westmeston forest school
Our approach of experiential and child-centred learning is instrumental in the development of Acorns children. Janet Irwin's Forest-School ethos is at the heart of our approach; the benefits of this is particularly evident in the high level of independence, confidence and communication skills that children develop during their time the Acorns.
In addition, The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides the underlying educational framework at the Acorns, where we are committed to integrating a holistic education for all children in the following areas:
communication and language
personal, social and emotional development
understanding the world
expressive arts and design
We understand that all children are different, so we seek to integrate the EYFS curriculum through activities of specific interest to your child, enabling them to learn through experience and discovery in the most enjoyable and effective way. We therefore understand that truly knowing and understanding your child is the best way to help them develop. It is for this reason that we offer a high adult to child ratio to ensure staff have lots of quality time interacting with your child and getting to know them on an individual basis.
Getting to know your child
We believe that establishing a trusting relationship with you as parents and a true partnership between you and The Acorns is essential, and will help us work in together to aid the progress and development of your child. We are committed to spending the time to get to know you and your child, and establishing effective channels of communication that work for you.
Upon starting The Acorns, you and your child will be asked to complete an 'all about me' pack to help provide us with a good initial understanding of what makes your child unique. Then, through regular communication and written observations, we help set and monitor individualised targets for your child's holistic development.
The Nursery day
Each nursery day combines both structure and freedom for the children. The structure enables children to access organised and stimulating activities and familiarise them with routines, whilst the freedom throughout the day to choose activities helps encourage imaginative play, socialising with other children, alongside exercising choice and independence. A morning and afternoon snack are provided, alongside a home-cooked lunchtime meal.
Children are encouraged to spend a substantial amount of time outside - in all weathers! Curiosity about the natural world is nurtured through outdoor play and exploring the surrounding wildlife. Climbing, riding on bikes and playing in the mud kitchen are popular outside activities. Learning from the natural world around us permeates into all aspects of the nursery, from using natural materials to create artwork, songs about the changing seasons, to story-time about all the different animals with whom we share our planet.
Our fantastic supply of arts and crafts materials, combined with the creativity of all our staff offers children the chance to experiment with a huge variety of arts materials, creating collages, finger painting, and even three-dimensional modelling! This opportunity for creativity also involves music, where Miss Matthews, our music specialist, engages the children through songs, dancing and instruments.
