Hello and welcome to our blog post.

We hope you enjoy reading about our week.

This week our focus has been on the story ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’

We introduced the story to the children and spoke about each of the characters.

We have been learning that each book has an author and an illustrator.

Mrs Drake organised a fun activity in the garden.

She lay down on a giant piece of paper and we drew around her.

The children then laid down on the paper and we used a measuring tape to see how tall everyone was.

The children then got to work to paint our giant.

You may have noticed The Acorns Family tree from the cloakroom has disappeared.

We had so many children leave us in the summer to start their exciting school journey that the tree was looking a bit bare.

We have been busy making hand prints so we can start a new Acorns Family tree.  It will be going up next week hopefully once we have finished collecting all the children's prints.

Our letter of the week is M

Can you think of anything that begins with that letter?

We enjoyed lots of time in the garden this week – here are a selection of pics.

In the story - the giants shirt became a sail for goat on a boat.

We did an experiment in the garden to see if our boats would sink or float.

We added conkers to each boat to see if the extra weight would make a difference.

The children made estimations and were very excited to see the results.

At the end of the story the giant is gifted a beautiful gold crown by all of the animals he helped.

We made our very own golden crowns and even added some jewels.

We all felt very fancy wearing them.

Superhero soup was on the menu -

The teachers told us that all of the ingredients in the soup have super powers which will help to make us strong, fast, and smart .. just like real superheroes.

We had bacon and butternut squash risotto later in the week.

Our friend brought in a butternut squash that he grew in his veg patch at home.

It was yummy! Thank You.

We have explored natural materials this week with lovely coloured leaves and conkers.

We used a conker drill to make holes and then threaded our conkers onto string.

We had to listen very carefully to the instructions as we used the conker drill to make sure we were using it safely.

We used sticky glue to make some leave collages – they are beautiful !

We also added some conkers onto the playdough table and made conker cupcakes and pancakes. Delicious !

Mrs Girt brought in a bag of things for us to use as props whilst we were reading the story.

We had some giants trousers, a tie, a huge shirt, belt and shoes …

It was lots of fun trying on the giants clothes.

We also found all of the snuggly animals from the story to play with.
