Week commencing 20th October 2025 - BOTH SETTINGS
Welcome to our blog post.
It has been a very busy week with lots of fun activities for the children.
Our story this week has been ‘Room on the Broom.’
We celebrated Diwali. The children listened to a story called ‘Lighting a Lamp’ which taught us all about the celebration.

We made Diya Lamps in both settings.

We rolled clay into balls and stuck our thumbs in the middle to make a hole. We then pinched round the edges to make the hole big enough to fit a candle inside.

At 59 the children painted their pots with sparkly glitter paint.

At 25 the children decorated their pots with sequins and sparkles.

They looked carefully for spaces to fill with sparkly gems.
“Here is a space – I found one” said OR
“This one is too big, I need a smaller one.” OR
“It’s making my hands dirty.” VB
We have been learning a song about Diwali.
Perhaps the children will sing it for you.
**Light up your candle,
Keep it shining bright,
Diwali, Diwali,
The festival of light.**
Thank you to everyone who brought in a pumpkin.
We have really enjoyed having them all week looking so fabulous !

Some of our pumpkins were home grown – how very special !

Many of the children have been sharing stories about how they went pumpkin picking at Tulleys Farm, Poynings Pumpkin Patch and other local farms.
We have been doing some spooky crafts this week.
At 59 - We made hanging bats with Mrs Drake.

We also made spooky ghosts using conkers and fabric.
We used the conker drill to make a hole in our conker, threaded through some string and added some fabric.
Super cute !

We printed with apples to make pumpkin shapes and then drew funny little faces on our pumpkins.

At number 25 we made the witches wand from our story.
We went out onto the lane to collect sticks and twigs to use as the handle for our wand.
Some were long and some were short.
“I’ve got this one but it wont fit in the basket.” GK
“This one is just right.” VC

We crumpled up leaves to stick to our wands.

The children helped to make playdough at number 25.

The play dough table turned into a cauldron table and we added some extra bits - rice, rats, bats, spoons ...
"I've made a rat, bat and rice stew" - SC
We made rats on toast, rat pizza, a bat roll and a bat wrap ... Mrs Finney was the taster !

They also made some yummy cakes - with orange icing. The icing reminded us of our pumpkins.
We weighed the ingredients and took turns to stir them all together in a big bowl.

The cakes were delicious and the children were excited to take them home at the end of the day.
Here are a selection of other photos from our week.

We hope you have enjoyed reading about our week.
Have a fabulous half term everyone.
Mrs Franks and The Acorns Team.
