Hello and welcome to our blog.

We hope you enjoy reading about our week – It has been full of fun, laughter and learning.

This week our story focus has been ‘Handa’s Surprise’

We had such fun learning about Handa and her journey to Akeyos village to deliver her fruit basket.

We talked about how kind Handa was to surprise her friend.

The children were intrigued to learn why Handa carried the fruit in a basket on her head.

“I use my backpack to carry things.”

“My daddy has bags to carry.”

We tried to balance a basket on our heads and walk around the room, we then added some fruits to our basket. It was really tricky. Great activity for concentration skills.

When we had the discs out in the garden the children recreated the activity for themselves.

"Look, I am Handa."

We had a lovely fruit basket with all of the fruits from our book on the kitchen table so we looked carefully at each one and the children named them each day – sadly we weren’t able to find a guava.

We explored each of the fruits – holding them, smelling them, watching them be cut open and of course tasting them !

“Avocados have big pips inside.”

“No, It is called a stone not a pip.”

“An apple has a pip.”

“Ahhhh, Ok.”

Great conversation.

We did some fruit printing – matching the colours of the fruits to those in the book.

The pictures are really colourful and bright.

We have them displayed in the nursery for everyone to see.

We thought about each of the animals in the book and the children chose to make a Zebra –

They used cut up fabrics to collage their Zebra.

We know that Handa lives in a village which is in Kenya -  We searched for Kenya on our globe.

“My daddy has been to that place before.”

“I’ve been to Spain on holiday and to Center Parcs holiday.”

We did some number work.

Handa had seven pieces of fruit in her basket so we have been learning to recognise the number 7.

We had a very exciting delivery of woodchip for our mud kitchen.

Thank you so much to TREEMARSHALLS !!

It was heavy work carting it from the drive to the mud kitchen, but it looks great now its all in place.

The children helped to spread it out evenly over the surface. Well done team !

We enjoyed puzzles again this week.

Small world toys have also been popular - the train track, garage and cars and the new hospital set.

Here are a selection of other photos from our week.
