Week commencing 29th April 2024 - Acorns 59

Welcome to our blog post.

We hope you enjoy reading about our week at The Acorns.

Our letter of the week is * B b *

We have enjoyed learning the jolly phonics song about the letter and trying to work out other things that begin with the letter.

“Bark – like on a tree or a dog noise”

“Bug”

“Bird”

“B is for Bernard, that's my brother.”

“Blueberries and Banana”

The children practiced writing the letter on the whiteboard.

It is interesting for us to see how the children are holding the pen and how much control they have over the marks they make.

The yoga pose for the letter B is the Butterfly pose.

Perhaps the children will show you how to do it.

We have enjoyed learning about New Zealand this week.

We found it on our globe and talked about how long it would take us to get there – how we might travel there and what we might see when we arrived.

We read some wonderful stories about New Zealand and the children loved learning about the Kiwi Bird.

Thank you to our friend for bringing in some books to share.

We made our own Kiwi Birds with paper and glue – the children followed instructions and then set off to make their own birds. They look great.

Well done everyone !

We watched a little video on YouTube about an explorer who visited New Zealand and he learned how to do a Haka.

We thought it would be fun to try our own Acorns Haka.

The children stomped their feet, waved their arms and made very angry faces.

They roared, yelled and shouted as the danced their Haka. It was soo much fun.

We spent lots of time in the garden this week.

It was mostly warm and dry but we did have to dodge a few showers.

Mrs Robertson did something very special with us in the garden – a volcano experiment!

We gathered around to watch the Volcano erupt and the lava liquid bubble and fizz.

“It smells funny.”

“Whoa … Lava …. Run !!!”

“Is it Mount Vesuvius?”

“Is it hot?”

What a great week !

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Mrs Franks and The Acorns 59 Team.
