Our story of the week has been ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’
On Monday we introduced the story to the children and used lots of different props to help us tell the story.

The children helped to feed our very own hungry caterpillar.

We did some caterpillar colouring and named the colours as we used them.

We tried hard to write the letters in our name and made these very cute name caterpillars.

On Tuesday we made some bread and shaped it like a caterpillar.

We helped to mix the ingredients together and then we went out to play in the garden while it proved. We were amazed to see how much it had grown when we came back indoors.
Mrs Girt put some flour out on the table to stop our dough from being sticky and we all got to roll out our own caterpillars.
We were so excited to take them home at the end of the day.

We had a lovely time in the garden, especially on the pirate ship and in the mud kitchen.
As the weather turns colder and wetter, can we remind everyone to pack wet weather clothes and wellies in bags. Thank You!
On Wednesday ….. We chatted about the life cycle of the caterpillar – it really is fascinating!
Mrs Franks brought in some little figures for us to look at.
Egg – Caterpillar – Cocoon – Butterfly.
We made some playdough caterpillars, using our hands and tools to help shape the dough.

Our letter of the week is ‘K’ and each day we chatted about things that begin with that letter.
We thought about our friends who come to the Acorns and worked out if anyone’s name begins with that letter.

On Thursday we tasted some of the food that the hungry caterpillar ate … for snack we tried little pieces of Apple, Pear, Strawberry, Orange, watermelon, Salami, Pickle, Chocolate cake.
Mrs Franks read the story and we tried the foods alongside the caterpillar in the story.
The children loved trying all of the yummy things.
“I love salami.”
“My mummy gives me pickles.”
“Watermelon is delicious.”
“This is juicy.”
“I DO NOT like pickles.”

We painted some butterflies using lovely bright colours and these are displayed in the nursery alongside our other work from this week.

On Friday we worked hard to complete some very tricky puzzles.
We also learned how to play dominoes.

It has been a very busy week and we have had such fun exploring the story.
We hope the children have enjoyed all of the activities we planned.
Next week we will be reading ‘Dear Zoo’
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Mrs Franks and The Acorns Team.
