Welcome to our weekly blog post.

We hope you enjoy reading about our week.

This week our focus has been on the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’

The children have really enjoyed listening to the story each day and its been fascinating to see how much of the book they can recall as the week has gone on.

Some of the children were already familiar with the story.

On Monday we made some playdough caterpillars, rolling out the dough with our hands. We used red and green playdough and rolled out balls. We then joined them together, alternating the colours to make a pattern.

The dough was soft and squishy.

We make our own dough at The Acorns. If you would like our recipe – please ask and we will be happy to share it with you.

We worked as a group to make a giant caterpillar with our hand prints. It was lots of fun and we worked as a team to create a wonderful picture.

We also made some caterpillar hats – children cut out their own shapes, using the scissors carefully.

On Tuesday we listened to the story in a group and did some caterpillar painting using tubes to print with.

The tubes printed a circle shape onto our paper.

On Wednesday we revisited the book and talked about all of the food the caterpillar likes to eat.

On the first day the caterpillar ate a delicious apple so we decided to do some apple printing.

We used red and green paint and the children also mixed some of the paints together experimenting to see what would happen.

We helped to clean up afterwards.

On Thursday we painted some beautiful butterflies. We chose our own colours and painted onto paper before folding the paper over and printing onto the other side.

They turned out so well and the children were so excited to open up the paper to see the colours and patterns they had made.

On Friday the children spotted something very interesting on the slide. They watched as it crawled around.

It was green and had very long, strong legs.

Can you guess what it was?

He jumped and hopped away.

They also spotted a dragonfly!

Here are few extra pics from our week ....
