Week 10 Blog @ 25

The children this week have enjoyed some dance parties to get the days started. They copied action songs such as Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, Wind the Bobbin Up, Hokey Cokey and Music Man.

We were very lucky to have a visit from some grown up Acorns children Mia and Tom. The children sat beautifully and listened to Tom play the Harmonic and perform some magic tricks.

We have had a math’s focus this week and to support this we have played some farm matching games and snakes and ladders. Board games are a fun way to support math’s skills in younger children, counting, number recognition, building patterns and creating sequences and problem solving.

The children played at being vets looking after the sick animals, checking their temperatures, giving them medicine, removing thorns and checking their ears. They were very kind and caring to the animals.

We created some amazing art with stencils, the children did really well to identify the animals as it was a little tricky.

We did some counting with animals and tried to match them with the correct number, 1 Cow, 2 Pigs and 3 Sheep and sorted some tractor and horse pictures into size order.

On the trip to the Doctors garden the children found some more seeds and checked on the potatoes. Some are growing nicely and some are taking a bit longer, we might have potatoes for Christmas dinner.

On the way back to Acorns the children identify the flowers by name, Hydrangea, Lavender, Daisies and Lilies.

The children also managed to spot some familiar letters in the road sign.

Mrs Spencer played a great game of hide and seek where the children had to hide and then when found made animal noises. Cock-a-doodle-doo doo was a popular choice. We were very impressed with the hiding spots!

Mrs Voller found a butterfly indoors she managed to catch it carefully and before releasing in the garden, the children looked carefully at its colours, noticing the orange, black and brown.

Finishing the week with some dressing up …

A donkey

A dinosaur

A cat

even Mrs Spencer became a dino-cat!
