Week commencing 13th May 2019 - Lindfield.
What a wonderful week!
Thank you to everyone who came along to support our open day on Sunday. The sun was shining and a great time was had by all.
The children were so excited to have you here and to be able to show you the wonderful garden we have here at The Acorns.
This week we have been focusing on health and self-care, we have been learning a lot about our bodies and the importance of making healthy choices and about the effects of exercise.
We have spent a lot of time in the garden where the children can explore the space and experiment with different ways of moving.
We ran, jumped, hopped, climbed, rolled and skipped.
We are learning how to use the garden equipment safely.
Sometimes we like to take risks ....
We noticed that after doing exercise our bodies felt hot.
We took our jumpers off and had a drink to to re-hydrate.
It has been a sunny week and we know that it is important to protect our bodies from the sunshine. We wear hats, shades and put on sun cream.
Please make sure your child has a named hat and some cream in their bag each day. Thank You.
We had a yoga session where we practised some poses from a toddler yoga book. We learned how to do the butterfly, the frog, the lion, the downward dog, the scared cat and the bird pose.
During our yoga session we took note of our breathing and noticed how our bodies move as our lungs fill with air.
We also know it is important to allow your body time to recover after exercise ... here we are having a little rest after yoga.
We have been talking about internal organs and looking at body books each day. We know where to find our heart and we know that blood pumps around our whole body.
Esme brought in a wonderful body book to share which we enjoyed looking at. Thank You !
“When you fall over all of your blood comes out your leg.”
“I have got a brain inside my head.”
“I’ve got bones.”
William visited the dentist and spoke to the children about how the dentist counted his teeth.
We know that we have to keep our teeth clean by brushing them often and that we mustn’t eat or drink too many sweet things.
We made some sugar cookies together, taking turns to roll out the dough and we got to use cutters to shape the biscuits. We know that cookies should be a treat and not an everyday food.
Miss Scovell brought in a bubble machine and we enjoyed chasing the bubbles around the garden, trying to count how many we could pop. It was so much fun!
Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you all next week.
