Week commencing 28th September 2026 - Acorns 59
Hello and welcome to our blog post.
We hope you enjoy reading about our week.
This week our focus has been ‘Our Homes’
We have had lots of fun exploring the theme and it has been very interesting to observe what the children know and can communicate about their own homes.
We played a fun game – We placed lots of household objects into a box and took one thing out at a time, talking about where in our houses we would find these things.
The types of things we had in our box were …
· Toilet roll
· Kitchen towel
· Pillow
· Spoon
· Pants
· Puzzle
· Shoes & boots
The children shared stories about their homes and where things are kept.
“I don’t have a wardrobe, I have drawers.”
“My cupboard opens and closes.”
“I have a play room for my toys.”
“I eat my breakfast at the table in the kitchen.”
“I sit on my sofa in the lounge.”
“My garden is massive.”
“My dad throwed my little table in the dump. I need a bigger one.”
We chatted about the different types of homes and looked at some pictures of houses, flats, bungalows, castles, tents....
We went for a lovely walk up the lane to look at some different houses.

We spotted lots of great things on our walk. Pretty flowers, house numbers, parked cars.
Our homes and families may all look different but from the stories we have heard they are all fun of fun, laughter and love.
We have introduced vocabulary like Semi-Detached, Terraced and Bungalow.
The children used paper shapes to collage their own homes and later in the week we painted our homes, choosing from a selection of colours.

We had fun playing with our dolls house & kitchen set each day, role playing home life.
Mrs Irwin surprised us on Thursday with a new dolls house for the garden – the children worked as a team to set out all the rooms with the furniture they thought should be in each one.

It was interesting to see which of our children knew their address.
Some children were able to tell us the name of their street and others were able to remember their house numbers.
“I live at number 7.”
"Percy lives next door to me. He takes his tiny dog out for a walk - its called Julia."
Our letter of the week has been ‘C’
How many things that begin with C can you name?
Cake, Car, Cat, Cabbage, Carrot, Caramel, Cup.

The children enjoyed learning a song about the letter – I wonder if they will sing it for you at home?
We read a story about three little pigs who each built their home from different materials.
We all decided that a house built from bricks would be the strongest and safest.
“The little sticks might fall down.”
“Straw is just inside a scarecrow.”
We made adorable shortbread houses with Mrs Neve.
The children followed a recipe, weighed out their ingredients and used cutters to form the shapes.

Mrs Creasey brought in her Giant African Land Snails - Doris and Doris.
The children were delighted to see how much they had grown.

We spent lots of time in the garden this week – here is a selection of photos from our time outdoors.

The weather has been great again this week and we are making the most of being able to be outside in the sunshine without having to be wrapped up in winter clothing.
It wont be long and we will be asking for wet weather suits and welly boots to be brought in.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
We look forward to seeing you all again next week for more fun, learning and laughter.
Mrs Franks and The Acorns Team.
