Welcome to our blog post.

We hope you enjoy reading all about our week.

This week our focus has been on emotions and we have been learning how to recognise our emotions and those of others.

We played a matching and sorting game - There were lots of different facial expressions printed on cards and the children tried to mimic the faces.

We went for a lovely walk into the village.

We were looking for signs that Autumn had arrived. We found lots of fallen leaves and many of the shops had beautiful autumnal displays for us to admire.

We visited the greengrocers and saw lots of different types of squash and pumpkins.

We enjoyed our snack sitting on the bench watching all the big vehicles going past.

We spotted lots of vans, lorries, trucks and cars.

We looked at the book 'Bear feels kind' by Gary Fleming.

It is a wonderful story that explore kindness and friendships. Its helps us to understand our emotions.

Bear did lots of things to be kind in the book and we discussed if we had done any of those things during our morning at The Acorns.

It opened up lots of conversations about kindness and the things we can do and say to each other.

We looked at a recipe for kindness potion.

We carefully read the ingredients list on the recipe card and we added some extras.

We snapped tree bark into pieces, tore up leaves, sprinkled glitter and rolled acorns.

We each gave our potion a stir which helped to spread the kindness.

We made heart shaped biscuits to represent the kindness and love that we feel in our hearts.

Mrs Neve always does a baking activity with us on a Wednesday and she tries to link it in to our weekly theme.

The children helped to read the recipe, measure out the ingredients and to combine the dough.

We topped our biscuits with a little bit of chocolate - What a delicious treat !

Mrs Finney shared a very special 'Social Story' with us on Thursday.

She used lots of little figures to help set the scene.

A little girl went for a lovely walk with her family and she experienced lots of different emotions during her outing.

The children had to identify how the child might be feeling in different circumstances.

For example - She met a dog on the way up the lane - How might she feel ?

She had been walking for a long time - How might she feel now ?

As always, we had fun playing outside in our garden.

We made playdough conkers, rolling the dough into balls.

It was a great finger gym activity.

Look what Miss Njie found whilst she was out on her lunch break - she brought it in to show us and we are planning some activities using it next week.

We hope you have enjoyed reading abut our week and we look forward to your comments.

Have a great weekend.

Mrs Franks and The Acorns Team.
