Week Commencing 21st September 2026 - Both Settings.

Welcome to our blog post. 

Our theme this week has been – My family and Pets.

It has been lovely to learn more about the children’s family members – grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

We have also been learning about your pets.

We have some very creative pet names -

*Loki

*Spud

*Rocky & Oreo

*Whiskey

*Luna

*Margie

*Elizabeth & Tabby

*Nelly & Archie

We spoke about the different types of pets people might have. 

Many of us have cats and dogs at home but we had fun thinking about other animals that might make suitable pets.

A friend from Acorns last term had geckos. 

Mrs Creasey has Doris, a giant African land snail who she brings in to show us sometimes.

The children at 59 have had the opportunity to draw family pictures for us to display within the nursery.

They worked hard on them and have been so proud of them all week.

“Look! That’s my family up there and my nanny with her sticks.”

“I drew him a bit funny. He looks funny.”

“My mummy has got shorter big legs and my daddy has got long big legs.”

At 25 – The children enjoyed a sorting activity.

They had lots of different animals to look at and worked out which animals might make good pets.

Do you think a tiger would make a good pet?      Where would it sleep?

What about a crocodile?

The children then went on to make animal enclosures using the building blocks.

Both nurseries have spent lots of time outside this week enjoying the glorious weather in their gardens.

The children from 25 enjoyed a lovely walk to the common – they were hunting for conkers and treasures on the way.

There is always lots to look at on our walks.

We walked around the allotments and then went to visit the pond.

We had fun counting how many ducks were resting on the platform.

How many can you spot?

 When they got back to 25 they emptied their treasures into the tuff tray and had fun sorting and exploring.

Our letter of the week is 'Bb' and we tried hard to think of things that begin with the letter.

Books, Biscuits, Bats, Balls, Banana, Bottom, Boat, Bird, Bike, Baby, Bath, Bread, Button ....

How many words can you think of?

At 25 the children did some baking - they made some delicious jam tarts.

They had to follow a recipe and measure out all of the ingredients.

They rolled out their dough using a rolling pin and then used cutters to create a round shape.

We filled our tarts with raspberry jam.

They were super yummy.

We hope that you have enjoyed reading about our week and seeing some photos of the things we get up to whilst at The Acorns.

We try to take lots of photos each week of your children at play and you are welcome to view these at any time.

At the end of each term you are invited to bring in a memory stick with a small payment and we can copy all of the pictures for you.

New Parents - On Tuesday 29th September.

Janet will be hosting a new parents information evening at 59 Denmans Lane. 7.45pm for an 8pm start.

It is a lovely way for you to ask any questions that may have arisen in your first few weeks and to meet other new parents.
