Week commencing 18th November 2024 - Acorns 25 & 59
Welcome to our blog post.
We hope you have all had a wonderful week and enjoy reading about what we have been up to at The Acorns.
This week our theme has been ‘Our environment and local area.’
We have enjoyed lots of chats about where we live and what our homes look like.
The children talked about things that they like to do locally – visiting the duck pond, parks and cafes.
“I have a baby chino.”
“I go to the park, the big one with the big grass, do you know that one?”
“I did feed the ducks yesterday”
We talked about ways in which we can take care of our local environment and the children were able to come up with lots of suggestions.
“We should put our rubbish in the bin.”
“We could plant flowers.”
“We can not shout at people.”
At 59 - We spoke about how lucky we are to share our space with bugs, birds and other animals and enjoyed many bug hunts in the garden.
We also managed to find some bugs and mini beasts hidden in some leaves in our tuff tray.
Can you spot any?
At number 25 the children experimented with the light box and fallen leaves.
They placed their leaves on the box and then changed the colours of the light to see what would happen.
A yellow leaf, with a blue light turned the leaf green. AMAZING!
We were all excited to see frost and ice this week and absolutely thrilled to see a few flakes of snow on Thursday.
The children were shrieking with excitement.
“ITS SNOWING!”
“ITS CHRISTMAS TIME!”
We fun fun stamping on it and then filled pots with toys and water to freeze overnight.
We had fun in the garden trying to catch bubbles on leaves that had fallen from the trees.
We did some nature painting - using leaves, twigs and feathers instead of paint brushes.
We got a little head start on one of our Christmas crafts - the activity will take a few weeks to complete and the children will revisit the craft to complete different parts of it.
Thank you for bringing in named socks.
We don't want to give too much away as we would love for it to be a surprise but here is a sneaky peak.
The children at 25 enjoyed a lovely walk on Friday. They wrapped up warm and headed out towards the allotments, duck pond and even stopped in at the Greengrocers.
We set up the tuff tray as a village using a happy land set and then sprinkled the village with litter - cardboard, plastic and paper.
The children used tongs as litter pickers.
We chatted about how we need to keep our village clean and tidy.
Here are some more photos from our week.
The teachers have been busy writing end of year reports for all of the children.
Some have gone out already and some will follow early next week.
Please remember to speak to the teachers about booking a time slot for your consultation.
These can be done face to face or over the phone.
We hope that you all stay warm over the weekend and we will look forward to seeing you next week.
Our theme next week is 'Thanksgiving'
We will encourage the children to think about the things they are thankful for.
Thank you for reading our blog.
