"My founding principle when I started The Acorns in 1985 was to give children the same excellent start in life that I had sought for my own children and I still remain true to those values." -Janet Irwin
We at The Acorns Nursery and Forest School aim to inspire the next generation by encouraging, helping and supporting them in becoming independent children. We provide them with limitless opportunities to develop their social, physical and academic skills.
Providing firm foundations in key life skills and a real sense of excitement for learning and achieving in all aspects of life underpins the ethos of The Acorns, where childhood is valued and children's natural curiosity of the world around them is nurtured.
Acorns children have lots of fun: exploring, playing, and learning. This is all within the safe and nurturing environments of both our settings. They offer children wonderful outdoor space and facilities for learning through adventure. We have an open-ended and flexible settling-in policy, enabling parents and children to feel relaxed and confident at The Acorns 'where learning and laughter go hand in hand'.
A traditional approach to early reading, writing and number skills, working in partnership with our parents, prepares our children for a smooth transition into the state or private sector. Our commitment to providing children with a rounded learning experience also heavily involves creativity through music and art.
Awarded 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in 2011, 2013 and 2019, The Acorns team of early years professionals is led by Janet Irwin, a qualified teacher with Early Years Professional Status and an MA in education. Janet also runs a successful tutoring and educational consultancy business locally.
Open for 38 weeks a year plus a four week summer holiday play scheme for children aged 2-11 years, The Acorns offers a variety of session times between 8am and 6pm weekdays to suit your individual needs.
