Week commencing 1st May 2017 - Lindfield.

This week we focussed on Personal, Social and Emotional Development. We observed how the children manage their feelings and behaviours.

Throughout the week we offered opportunities for the children to talk about their feelings.

We asked what makes them feel happy or sad.

The children looked in mirrors and pulled funny faces. They then drew themselves with different expressions. “My surprised face has a funny mouth.”

We read stories that encouraged the children to think about how they would feel in certain situations and we gave them time and support to use language that allowed them to express themselves.

We looked at ways to support the children in recognising the feelings of others. “Is she happy because she is 4 now?” “I feel so happy when I get to see my Grandad.” “I’m feeling sad cos the whale got trapped” - after reading the story My Friend Whale.

We had a pottery session with Jane on Tuesday. The children made snails and wiggly worms.

We had lots of fun in the garden this week. We used the sand and water trays, climbed on the pirate ship and made some delicious muddy food in the mud kitchen.

“We feel scared because the big bad wolf is chasing us.” - The children crawled through tunnels in the garden as part of their game. Recreating a story from earlier in the day.

We had fun box modelling this week, making some fabulous sculptures and models. We used glue and tape to stick our models together. Look at this amazing creation ….

We have been busy practising our songs for the open day concert on Sunday. The children are very excited and are looking forward to singing for you. We practised as a group and also some of the children felt confident enough to stand up and sing a solo!

The Open Day is on Sunday 7th May from 10.30am – 12noon. We hope to see you all there.

We have been baking cakes ready for the open day. Mrs Davies helped us to make an apple cake. We had to measure out the ingredients and crack eggs into a bowl. The children really enjoy baking activities and if you have any fabulous recipes that you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

We worked as a team when using the building blocks, helping to get the wooden blocks to balance on top of each other without them toppling over. We supported each other and encouraged each other.

“You can do it!” “You’re amazing. What a super star.”

We have had a lovely week with lots of smiles, laughter and learning. Well Done Everyone!

Darcy Shepherd (Theo's mummy) is organising the float for village day and would like to know who will be joining us. We will be asking you next week so please check your diaries.

The children will have a choice of either riding on the float or following behind on foot.

The theme this year is 'Strictly Lindfield' and we would like the children to dress up as strictly dancers. Lots of sparkle please!

We will be making props at The Acorns ready for this exciting day.

Next week we will be focusing on Communication and Language - Understanding.

The letter of the week will be 'Bb'

Date for diary - Thursday 11th May.

New Parents Information Evening in Lindfield at 8pm.
