Week commencing 20th March 2017 - Lindfield.

Our focus this week has been Physical Development – Health and Self-Care.
On Monday a group of children went out for a lovely long walk – they did some running and jumping jacks whilst at the park and then were encouraged to observe how their bodies felt after exercising. “I’m thirsty now.” “I’m hot and sweaty.” “I’m tired out.”
The teachers encouraged the children to put their hands on their hearts to see if they could feel it beating. Boom, boom, BOOM!
On Tuesday we had a pottery session with Jane. We made Easter bunnies. The clay was cold and hard but we used our hands to warm it up. We got to take home our pottery from the last time that Jane visited.

On Wednesday we did some baking with Mrs Davies. We weighed and measured the ingredients and followed the recipe carefully to make delicious cakes. Our favourite part of baking cakes is cracking the eggs. We do it all by ourselves and are careful not to get any of the shells into our mixture. Our cakes were very yummy and we each got to take one home.

We spoke about healthy foods, understanding that cakes and biscuits are not healthy but nice to have as a treat.
Miss Nagy shared a game with us. We talked about the different food groups and how it is important to fuel our bodies with all sorts of different foods to keep us healthy.

It was a very rainy day so at circle time Miss Cheyne sang songs with us about the weather. We learned a new song called Splish, Splash, Splosh. It's all about jumping in puddles when it rains.
On Thursday we had lots of garden time and enjoyed looking at the digging spot. Soon it will be time to sow our seeds and do some planting. We are going to grow lots of vegetables in our garden again this year. We played a guessing game to find out where our favourite fruits and vegetables grow. Under ground, on the ground or on a tree? Has anyone ever seen a carrot tree?
As well as exercising outdoors this week we have done been doing indoor exercises. We ran on the spot, did star jumps and played the sit down stand up game.

We have also been busy this week making Mother’s Day treats. We made cards, biscuits, bracelets and pictures. We hope all of our Mummies have a very special day on Sunday.
We also made something special for Mrs Butcher this week who has worked at The Acorns for 25 years, helping to provide a safe and happy environment for hundreds of children. We presented her with gifts at our Parents Information Evening on Thursday night.
Thank you to everyone who came along. We hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did.
Next week we will be focussing on Literacy – writing.
The letter of the week will be W.
We will be starting our Easter Crafts next week .
