Physical Development – Moving and handling.
It has been a busy week!
This week we have been focussing on looking at the ways in which the children can move.
We have provided many opportunities for them to dance freely, use tools, negotiate large apparatus and practise their fine motor movements.
We drew some lines on paper and asked the children to cut along the line – it was quite tricky, but we really enjoyed practising our scissor skills.
We also used hole punches and drew straight lines using a ruler.
There is a display of our work on one of our doors for you all to see.
We used jumbo tweezers to pick up small pom poms and foam noodles, sorting them into colour sets as we went. The tweezers are designed to help to strengthen the muscles in our fingers, which in time will aid us with our writing skills.
We used the tool box and cardboard boxes to create work stations, mirroring what was going on in the garden.
The new building is really taking shape now and we can’t wait for it to be finished.
We threaded, rolled out play dough and spread our own toast at tea time.
We fastened our coats using the zips and even attempted to do up buttons.
We can use our hands to do so many things.
We held pencils, used the salt tray to make marks and painted with water and mud outside in the garden.
We have enjoyed music and movement this week with many children bringing in CDs to share – thank you, it’s great to see so many parents supporting us by following the planning at home.
Of course, this week hasn’t all been about using tools and moving - We have also enjoyed singing and stories, arts and crafts, making story stones, completing puzzles and games and lots of experimenting outdoors.
Things to notice at home -
Can your child fasten their coat?
How do they manage steps?
Can they catch a ball?
Thank you for taking the time to read our weekly blogs.
We would love to see some comments about the things your child has particularly enjoyed this week. Lets try to make this more interactive :)
We look forward to next week when we will be focussing on Literacy - Reading.
Have a lovely weekend.
