What a scorching hot week we have had! We have had to make sure that we were wearing sun cream and hats when we were playing outside. With our focus on Maths – Shape, Space and Measures we have been measuring quantities with lots of water play which was very cooling. We used long gutters to make streams. This week we focused on Mathematics – Space, Shape and Measure. We offered exciting activities each day for the children to enjoy. On Monday the children who went out for a walk tried very hard to fly a kite, they looked at the shape of the kite and measured its tail. There wasn’t much wind so it wasn’t as successful as planned but the children had so much fun trying to get the kite off the ground. It has been quite a wet week and the dried up lumpy paths around us have become muddy again. We love mud. The woods sound amazing too with the sounds of raindrops on the leaves. We have extended our Police interest theme to include a speed camera. I’m not sure that any of us realised it was a speed camera so we used it as a telescope to look for pirates. We practised being kind, polite and thoughtful. We thought of some rules that would be good to have in the nursery and made some signs. This week we focussed on Personal, Social and Emotional Development. We observed how the children manage their feelings and behaviours. Throughout the week we offered opportunities for the children to talk about their feelings. We asked what makes them feel happy or sad. The children looked in mirrors and pulled funny faces. They then drew themselves with different expressions.
