Focus of the week - Expressive Art and Design, Being Imaginative We have had a week of make believe with dressing up and den making! Miss Edwards helped some of us to make super hero masks. We became Batman and Iron Man which of course prompted a lot of imaginary play. We also got to play with her special colour mixing glasses. They made things look so strange! We made bird seed cakes that went a bit squishy and fell apart. We were sure that the birds wouldn’t mind that tho
The focus of the week has been Expressive Arts and Design - being imaginative. We have been observing how the children use their imagination.
We have offered many opportunities for the children to be creative in their play. We have had role play and dressing up available each day. We have dressed as fire-fighters, doctors, princesses and spiders amongst other things. We have used building blocks, duplo, stickle bricks and magnets to construct with, creating amazing sculpture
On Monday we played musical shapes. We read the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Many of us remembered that there were different sized bowls, chairs and beds. We decided that Goldilocks probably shouldn’t have gone into an empty house and that she was a bit cheeky to eat baby bear’s porridge. Tuesday was Internet Safety Day and we talked about being careful when we use tablets, computers and smart phones. We said how we love playing games and going on the CBeebies w
Focus of the week – Mathematics - Space, shape and measure. Monday – We made some wonderful shape printing pictures. We used different sized cups to make circles, duplo blocks to make rectangles and stacking cubes to make squares. We identified and named the shapes as we made the prints with brightly coloured paint. The children who went for a walk searched for shapes and found them in the most unusual of places - They pointed out drain covers, different shaped windows, re
This week we have been reading and storytelling! Our traditional story for the last two weeks was Thumbelina by Hans Christian Anderson. This inspired a role play area of fairies, logs and natural materials. We brought in our own favourite stories to share with our friends. We had to make our own play dough and enjoyed measuring and mixing the ingredients together before it was cooked. The new play dough was lovely and warm. It was a little bit wet this week so we ended up
This week we focussed on Literacy – writing. We observed the children as they made marks.
Mark making can take place in many different ways - it can be with pens, pencils, crayons, chalks, paints, mud, shaving foam, water etc. We can also use tools to make marks like paint brushes and sponges. We have been reading lots of stories and the children have been sharing books from home and from the local library. Thank you for bringing in your wonderful story books this week. We h
